Traditions

I am writing about our family traditions to fulfill one of my cub scout requirements.  Our family does a lot of fun things, that we call traditions, but I’m going to write about one of my favorites.
I would like to talk about pre and post birthday’s

First of all what is a pre/post birthday?  A pre birthday is the day before birthday, and the almost next year old family member opens a present. A post birthday is the day after your birthday and you open a present.  Sometimes we substitute a present for an ice cream outing, or we’ll eat the birthday cake on the post birthday.  We’ve even done a fun outing for the pre or post birthday!

Why does my family have them? My parents think 1 day a year is not enough to celebrate our day, so they made pre/post birthdays for everyone in my family.

I like this tradition because I get three days a year, dedicated to ME!!  But also, this is unique to our family!  We have so much fun doing this and usually when people ask us about pre or post birthday everyone is amazed and find it to be a fun idea!

Some of my favorite birthday memories are of Pre and Post celebrations!!  I remember one time where we traveled to Heber City and played around a park up there, saw the trains and ate at the Dairy Keen.  That was for a post birthday celebration.

Eloise, my sister, is turning 9 tomorrow.  So for her Pre-Birthday, we went out to Orange Leaf and all had some ice cream.  It was a lot of fun!  I don’t know what my parents are planning for the post birthday, but I’m sure it will be awesome!

I would prefer to go on 3 hikes this year for my pre and post birthday stuff.  Like, Craters of the Moon for my Pre Birthday.  Palisades for my Birthday and then maybe Table Mountain for my Post Birthday.  That would be awesome, but I don’t know if my parents are up for that!  I’d settle for 2 hikes. Here are some pictures of me and my family on some of my pre and post birthdays!

Tornados

I think tornadoes are interesting because they are big and they ruin a lot of stuff.  Tornado's form when big thunderstorms happen.  Warm air is pushed up by cold air, scientists don't know what happens after a super cell forms to make a tornado.  It's really weird that we don't know how they form. My mom helped show me  how thunderstorms form.  We put green food coloring in some water, in a big bowl (so we could see it).  Then we put blue ice cubes on the other side and watched the cold water (blue) push the warm water (green) up.  It's called convection.  It was cool to watch.

I like to watch this video, it has a lot of tornado's in different states.  In the USA we have the most tornado's in the world, especially in Tornado Alley.  Texas, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, North Dakota and South Dakota get a lot!  They get a lot because the states don't have many mountains, just flat lands.  The states also get a lot of warm air and moisture from the ocean.

Even if a state has mountains it can still get tornado's.  In 1999 Salt Lake City had a little twister.  It happened downtown and did a little bit of damage.  They fixed it all up, but people were pretty surprised we had a little twister.  I really want to visit tornado alley with my Grandpa.  My Grandpa really wants to see a tornado in person and so do I!  So my mom said I can go when I'm older - like when I'm 18 or something.  Grandpa says he wants to see an F5 (that's the biggest, worstest tornado there is)  I think that would be kinda scary. Grandpa wants to get really close to them too, but he'll be older and won't be able to move fast, so we'll have to keep our distance. We'll keep to about 1 mile away.  We'll just move back when it gets close to us.  It will be a fun time!

Enjoy the video, it's one of my favorites.

My First Post!

Hello family and friends!

You know me, I'm Noah!  I like a lot of stuff and I like to learn about a lot of things.  My mom said it's a good time to write about it all.  My mom is helping me write this first post, but after this, I'm on my own.  I'm excited to tell you about all the things I like to do and learn about.  I'm a nut about learning, it's true!  I am 6, almost 7, I have freckles and I have lost 2 teeth.... Mom had to pull out both of them... it hurt, but the tooth fairy came and gave me some money for both teeth.  Eloise thinks the tooth fairy takes the teeth and makes ice cream out of them... bleck! That would so gross, tooth flavored ice cream?! EW, that's disgusting!

Mom told me about how cool Tie Dye shirts and stuff are.  Every color works together to make something really cool.  I'm really cool and a lot like a tie dye shirt because I like a lot of different stuff.  I think that is all I want to say for my first post.  I am excited to get more computer time with this blog.  My next post I want to write about the Jog-A-Thon, which is tomorrow and I am SUPER excited about.  Because we are going to run like crazy and Dad gets to come and watch me!!  I hope mom gets a cool picture of me running, but I'm pretty fast, so she'll have to be quick!
